Summary
Hamsters immunized with either SV40 tumor cell material or with SV40 virus possessed a diffusable factor in the peritoneal cavity which destroys or inhibits the proliferation of homologous SV40 tumor cells in diffusion chambers. The diffusable factor had no activity against hamster muscle cells from homologous hamsters and its activity was dependent, to some degree, on the target cell concentration and on the number of immunizations. The diffusion chamber environment was free from lymphoid cell penetration under the conditions employed and the immunity detected is believed to result from humoral antibody.
