Abstract
Summary
The ability of mice to produce virus-induced interferon was impaired by 25-μg doses of epinephrine and enhanced by 2.5-μg doses. Endotoxin-induced interferon production was also impaired by epinephrine. The impairment was not mediated via the adrenal glands or the spleen, but was prevented by an alpha adrenergic blocking agent. Norepinephrine induced a response similar to that seen with epinephrine. Histamine impaired the production of virusinduced but not of endotoxin-induced interferon.
