Abstract
Summary
The pressor effect of angiotensin II has been demonstrated in vivo in the fetal as well as the maternal circulations of five pregnant rhesus monkeys. The pressor effect was not transmitted in either direction across the placenta. A possible role for the renin-angiotensin system in the pathogenesis of fetal growth retardation and mortality in human pregnancies complicated by maternal hypertension is suggested.
