Abstract
Summary
Four experiments were conducted with growing lambs to study the influence of diethylstilbestrol administration upon plasma urea-N levels. A reduction was observed within 24 hr that magnified until maximum depression was observed 12-19 days after administration of the compound at which time plasma urea-N levels tended to return toward those observed in control lambs. This response was similar with either oral or implant administration of the compound. With oral administration, the response appeared to be dose-dependent; only one level was tested via implantation. Several possible explanations exist for this response. It is felt that growth hormone release could account for this effect, especially the early (24-hr) response that was observed.
