Abstract
Summary
Using the ultramicro technique, the authors showed that on day 14 after unilateral nephrectomy there is a significant increase in the activity of the enzymes investigated. Specific activity of glutamic dehydrogenase increased from 6.1 μmoles/1 mg of protein/1 hr to 13.4 μmoles in proximal convoluted tubules and from 3.8 μmoles to 7.3 μmoles in distal tubules. Alkaline phosphatase activity increased from 32.6 to 56.5 μmoles in the proximal and from 14.9 to 25.3 μmoles in the distal ones. In discussing the results, the authors suggest that this increase may be due to the synthesis of the enzymes via the operon.
