Summary
Ninhydrin, 1,2 cycloheptane-dione, and catechol inhibit the induction of benzoic acid oxidase in a strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. oPhenylene diamine partially reverses the inhibition by ninhydrin and a noninhibitory concentration of catechol reverses the inhibition of ninhydrin and 1,2 cycloheptane-dione. If the interval between the addition to the cells of inhibitor and antagonist is too long the reversal is less effective. Sodium sulfite reverses the inhibition by these compounds and p-phenylene diamine.
