Abstract
Summary
Circulating autoantibodies were produced in rabbits by repeated intravenous injections of papain-digested rabbit thyroid extract. Control experiments indicated that neither papain nor rabbit thyroid extract alone would induce these autoantibodies. The antibodies were shown to be organ-specific but not species-specific, and resembled closely those antibodies produced by injection of untreated rabbit thyroid extract emulsified in Freund adjuvant.
