Abstract
Summary
The pleural response to the intrapleural injection of 5 ml of 0.075% Evans blue-0.025% carrageenin type 7 is characterized by three sequential phases: absorptive effusive or inflammatory, and resorptive. Hydrocortisone and acetylsalicylic acid did not affect the absorptive phase, were equipotent in suppressing the effusive phase, and only the steroid facilitated the outflow of fluid from the pleural cavity in the resorptive phase.
