Summary
Differences in the distribution of the LDH isozymes in the serum of men and young women have been found, despite the fact that the mean total serum LDH activity is the same in men and women. These differences were found to disappear after the menopause. The theoretical significance of these observations in relation to the site of estrogen action and their importance in the diagnostic use of serum LDH isozymes are discussed.
