Abstract
Summary
Of several antibiotics investigated, polymyxin B sulfate showed anti-FSF activity following intravenous administration to dogs. Peak activity was found at approximately one hour and the effect persisted through the third hour post drug. In vitro experiments, in which cysteine was found to antagonize the anti-FSF activity of polymyxin B sulfate, suggest that the antibiotic interferes with fibrin stabilization by a reversible inactivation of FSF.
