Abstract
Summary
Thyroidectomy reduced the weight of rat salivary glands and triiodothyro-nine increased it. The hypertrophy in salivary glands induced by isoproterenol was unaffected by thyroidectomy or pretreatment with triiodothyronine. Propranolol inhibited the isoproterenol-induced hypertrophy to a greater extent than phenoxybenzamine suggesting that the adrenergic receptors are primarily beta in type.
