Summary
The dogfish gastric mucosa is relatively refractory to histamine. An interstitial concentration of 2 mM is required to insure maximal secretion of acid. This concentration is high enough to suggest that if cholinergic excitation is mediated by the release of histamine, histamine is released within the oxyntic cells of this species. The dogfish mucosa is much less responsive to hog gastrin than is the bullfrog gastric mucosa.
