Abstract
Summary
A simple technique is described for transplanting one or several pituitaries in a pneumoderma pouch insufflated under the dorsal skin of a rat. Topical administration of hypothalamic extracts into this pneumoderma pouch maintained the normal staining characteristics of all adenohypophysial cell types, whereas the saline injected control tissues exhibited the classical changes of de-differentiation. The pneumoderma pouch technique could be used for transplantation of tissues other than pituitary; it allows application of substances directly in contact with the transplant by injecting into the pouch.
