Abstract
Summary
A comparison of 2 strains of parainfluenza 3 virus, one of human origin (PV3) and the other of bovine (SF-4) was made by the Ouchterlony precipitate test. Two antigens were detected by the reaction between the SF-4 monkey kidney tissue culture antigen and its homologous serum. The nature of the weaker antigen was not determined. The PV3 virus reacted weakly with the SF-4 antigen and showed a reaction of identity. In addition, a reaction between the PV3 antigen and its antibody was distinct from the reaction with the SF-4 antibody, but showed a reaction of partial identity. This confirms the reported “one way” cross seen serologically.
