Abstract
Summary
Human blood leukocytes, following incubation with a purified endotoxin derived from Proteus vulgaris or with heat-killed Staphylococcus albus cells, release a pyrogen that produces fever in rabbits. This material is clearly separable from bacterial endotoxin, and has properties similar to those described for leukocyte pyrogen produced by rabbit granulocytes.
