Summary
Suitable conditions for assay of 5′-nucleotidase activity in the lamb heart and skeletal muscle, cotton rat heart muscle and chick skeletal muscle are described. The previously demonstrated increase in this enzyme in affected lamb skeletal muscle was again significant but no enhancement was found in associated calcified lamb heart tissue. Calcified as well as normal cotton rat heart muscle exhibited high activity while both calcified and normal chick skeletal muscle were extremely low in activity.
