Abstract
Summary
The erythropoietic response of the newborn rat exposed to 0.4 atmosphere 6 hours/day for a period of 7 days was measured. Exposure prior to the 16th day of life failed to influence the rate of erythropoiesis. Thereafter there was a gradual transition to the adult type of response in which polycythemia is induced and is characterized by the production of macrocytic red cells.
