Summary
Chronic administration of the antithyroid drug, propylthiouracil (PTU) reduced the NaCl preference threshold of rats from one-fifth to one-eighth that of untreated controls. Preference threshold of normal rats lay between .02 and .05 M while threshold of PTU-treated rats lay between .003 and .01 M. Differences between thresholds were significant. The reduction in preference threshold for NaCl solution adds further to the striking similarities of PTU-treated and adrenalectomized rats.
