Summary
Nakayama's vascular stapler was employed for repair of a cut common bile duct of 6 dogs. Two dogs had transient jaundice; high blood alkaline phosphatase levels, decreasing slowly, appeared in all 6 dogs. Autopsy 2–3 months after surgery showed severe stenosis and fibrosis at the anastomosis with considerable dilatation above. The results do not encourage the use of the method in humans.
