Antagonistic and Antidotal Action of Vitamins K 1 and K 3 Versus Dicumarol in Dogs. ∗

Summary

Dogs received 5 mg dicumarol/kg orally and 13.05 mg vit. K₁ or 5 mg of vit. K₃/kg, orally or intravenously on Day 0, Day 3, or Days 1, 2, 3 after dicumarol. Values for prothrombin time, prothrombin concentration, Factor VII, Factor × were determined. Vit. K₁ and K₃ were equally effective oral antagonists when given with dicumarol, but vit. K₁ was much more effective on intravenous administration. When given on the third day after dicumarol, both vit. K₁ and K₃ had an antidotal effect but vit. K₁ was much more effective.
