Abstract
Summary
Experimentally inflicted poultry bruises were examined for ATPase, glycogen and lactic acid. ATPase activity decreased as a result of trauma and was dependent on age of bruise, severity of trauma and previous bruise history. Glycogen concentrations decreased within 12 hours of injury whereas lactic acid increased immediately following contusion. By 24 hours post trauma, both lactic acid and glycogen levels were considerably below normal levels and continued to be low throughout the healing process.
