Abstract
Summary
Constant perfusion of a salts-glucose solution through the yolk sacs of 3-or 4-day chick embryos resulted in poor survival and abnormally pale eyes. Incubation in a 40% oxygen atmosphere in the presence of a yolk-supplemented medium permitted virtually normal pigmentation, and greatly enhanced survival. It is concluded that both yolk and oxygen must be present for normal development of retinal pigmentation.
