Abstract
Summary
Acute adrenalectomy in the anesthetized dog resulted in cardiovascular collapse which developed over a 30-60-minute period and was characterized by a decrease in left ventricular contractile force, mean arterial blood pressure, and femoral blood flow and the occurrence of prominent, tachycardia. Pretreatment with appropriate doses of cortisol, hexamethonium, pentolinium and phenoxybenzamine prevented these hemodynamic alterations. Treatment with these agents after the development of the collapse had no beneficial effect.
