Summary
The production of an inter-feron-like substance by chick embryos infected with herpes simplex virus is described. The physical, chemical, and biological properties of herpes interferon are demonstrated to be similar to those of previously reported interferons. Speculation is made on the possible role of interferon in the classic example of latency in humans—infection by herpes simplex virus.
