Abstract
Summary
The excitability cycle of the heart was studied by means of mechanical stimulation. Absolute and relative refractory and unresponsive periods were found which compared well with identifications made in the same hearts by electrical stimulation. No supernormal periods or vulnerable periods were found when mechanical stimuli were used.
