Abstract
Summary
Modification, in the form of basal protrusions, occurred in renal tubule cells of aged rats in areas where the peri-tubular basement membrane had become thickened. These changes were present in all aged rats regardless of the type, quality or quantity of their diet. It is suggested that this alteration is an attempt by the cell to compensate for an increase in resistance to transport presented by thickening of the basement membrane.
