Abstract
Summary
It has been postulated that the initial hemodynamic alterations in canine endotoxin shock are due to an immune mechanism (antigen-antibody) involving complement. Partial decomplementation of dogs follwoing intravenous injection of heataggravated human globulin, enhanced rather than decreased the lethal effect of endotoxin. The results of the present experiments suggested that because of the macromolecular size of the heated globulin anaphylaxis was produced, and in this manner the anaphylactic action of endotoxin was enhanced.
