Summary
The pressor effects of small doses of norepinephrine and tyramine have been studied in normal humans after pre-treatment with therapeutic range doses of methyldopa, reserpine, and DOPA. 1) Methyldopa pretreatment causes an enhanced response to tyramine. 2) Reserpine pretreatment causes a diminished response to tyramine. 3) Methyldopa pretreatment does not affect response to norepinephrine. 4) Reserpine pretreatment causes an enhanced response to norepinephrine. 5) After reserpine, DOPA treatment has no reliable effect on either norepinephrine or tyramine response.
