Abstract
Summary
In slices of rabbit kidney cortex, active transport of 4-aminohippurate was uninfluenced by creatinine even when the concentration of creatinine was 60 times greater than that of hippurate. Previously published claims that creatinine and 4-aminohippurate compete for a single transport mechanism are thereby refuted. A small but significant rate of synthesis of creatinine chromogen by renal tissue conceivably can serve as a renal source of creatinine during clearance measurements.
