Abstract
Summary
Rabbits given volumes of endo-toxin-tolerant donor plasma too small to modify significantly the course of fever produced by a first test dose of endotoxin injected shortly thereafter, display a remarkable degree of tolerance to a larger dose of endotoxin given 24 hours later, compared to identically endotoxin-treated controls. The results are inconsistent with hypotheses invoking any direct effect of the humoral mediator upon the endotoxin.
