Abstract
Summary
Rhesus monkeys subjected to transthoracic vagotomy were challenged with staphylococcal enterotoxin and observed for vomiting. A significantly higher tolerance was shown against intragastric administration than against intravenous injection of enterotoxin. Complete protection was not obtained even against oral challenge. Responsiveness to enterotoxin-induced emesis in vagotomized monkeys and cats is similar if the challenge is by the intravenous route.
