Abstract
Summary
A proliferative response and cellular changes occurred in primary rabbit, mouse, and porcine kidney cultures infected with SV-40 which resembled the transformations induced by this virus in hamster and human tissue cultures. Continuous cell lines of the altered cells from the 3 species were established; preliminary attempts to transplant these cells to homologous or isologous species have failed. SV-40 proliferated in all 3 species cultures but was not present as extractable infectious virus in the passage lines of rabbit and mouse cells.
