Abstract
Summary
A constituent of penicillium cyclopium has been found to have antiviral properties. Preliminary analyses suggest that it is a protein derivative. This factor, provisionally designated “Cyclopin,” inhibits in vitro both cytopathic effect and replication of representative species of Groups A and B arboviruses even when added after infection is established. Under comparable conditions it does not significantly inhibit cytopathic changes induced by certain enteroviruses, adenovirus type II, and herpes simplex virus.
