Abstract
Summary
It has been demonstrated that the renal tubule produces ammonia during the oliguric phase of acute renal failure. Chlorothiazide had no effect on renal blood flow, oxygen consumption, and ammonia production, nor did it affect the serum electrolytes or acid base balance. It is suggested that chlorothiazide exerts its main action in man by a predominantly renal effect.
