Abstract
Summary
In a search for hepatotoxic plants native to Jamaica, it was found that the aqueous extracts of Picramnia antidesma Sw. and of Turnera ulmifolia L. had a distinct protective effect on the development of dietary hepatic injury and of the accompanying acute necrotizing nephrosis, in rats fed a cirrhosis producing diet. The protective factor appears to be different from choline, methionine and Vit. B12. It is not a protein or lipid.
