Abstract
Summary
Chlorothiazide was given to normal rats for 6 weeks and to renal hypertensive rats for 11 to 17 days. Lowering of elevated blood pressure by this agent was variable in duration and degree. Plasma, skeletal and heart muscle, aorta, and in one experiment the whole animal, were analyzed for sodium, potassium, chloride and water. No consistent alterations were found in electrolyte or water contents of plasma or tissues of normotensive or hypertensive rats given thiazide drugs.
