Summary
The cardiac output of anesthetized albino rats increased following administration of ouabain in doses of from 0.05 to 0.09 mg/kg i.v. Mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were unchanged; calculated total peripheral resistance decreased. Signs of toxicity were not observed over a dose range of from 0.01 to 0.05 mg/kg despite the appearance of the positive inotropic effects.
