Abstract
Summary
Erythropoietic activity of saline extracts of rat kidneys with varying degrees of juxtaglomerular granularity was studied. It was found that higher than normal degrees of juxtaglomerular granularity were associated with higher than normal erythropoietic activity. Lower than normal degrees of juxtaglomerular granularity were not definitely associated with lower than normal erythropoietic activity. The evidence here does not conclusively prove or disprove that the juxtaglomerular apparatus secretes erythropoietin.
