Summary
Coxsackie A9 virus, Strain 13, replicated in the hearts of 1-yr old mice and produced an isolated myocarditis in some of them without concomitant lesions of striated muscle. The differential susceptibility of striated muscle and heart was shown to vary with age; in suckling mice there was only myositis with 10,000 times more virus per gram produced in skeletal muscle than in myocardium, whereas in 1-yr old mice, myocardium contained 10,000 times as much virus as the limb.
