Abstract
Summary
Intraortic thrombi were induced in rats fed stock and high cholesterol fat diets. Similar thrombi were induced in rabbits fed similar diets for comparative purposes. The thrombi in rats fed either type of diet evoked an intimal cellular hyperplasia that led to encirclement of the thrombus. The new intimal tissue in the hypercholesteremic rat also exhibited an excess of lipid and cholesterol. However, the intensity of cellular response, of lipid and of cholesterol accumulation was much less in the hypercholesteremic rat's aorta than in that of the hypercholesteremic rabbit.
