Summary
The in vitro incorporation of H3-cholesterol into surviving rabbit aorta is increased by cyanide and fluoride. This effect is not shown by vena cava tissue. Incubation in rabbit plasma results in a greater stimulation than when either normal or atherosclerotic human serum was used. The data supports the hypothesis that an energy-requiring system functions to prevent deposition of cholesterol from the serum into the rabbit aorta.
