Abstract
Summary
Rat liver homogenates were incubated aerobically with and without added ribonuclease. Simultaneous determinations of respiratory rate and capacity to convert mevalonic acid to non-saponifiable material were made. Loss of the synthetic capacity of the homogenates, considered as a reflection of the failure to maintain a functional level of ATP, was followed by a decline in rate of respiration. Synthetic capacity and rate of respiration were maintained by the presence of added polyanions.
