Abstract
Summary
A “heat-activated” DPN pyrophosphatase activity of cells of Staphylococcus aureus and of some strains of Staphylococcus albus is described. Cell extracts exhibit no activity until they have been heated. The enzyme is quite stable to high temperatures and appears to undergo reversible heat denaturation. The enzyme shows some specificity in that it does not cleave TPN or TPNH.
