Abstract
Summary
Solubility of unconjugated bilirubin was studied in protein-free aqueous solutions of various molarity and pH. At salt concentrations approximating that of extracellular fluid, bilirubin was found to be more soluble than has hitherto been assumed. Solubility of bilirubin in aqueous solution depends critically on pH and ionic strength.
