Abstract
Summary and Conclusions
Millipore diffusion chambers filled with gram-negative enteric bacilli and placed in the mouse peritoneum have been used to determine the fate of these bacilli in a cell-free environment. In contrast to findings in the guinea pig, all 7 strains of bacteria tested in the mouse grew in such diffusion chambers. These chambers also served to collect cell-free peritoneal fluid for bactericidal studies in vitro. Such studies showed mouse peritoneal fluid to have no bactericidal activity against gram-negative enteric bacilli.
