Summary
When EMC virus was grown in cultures of mouse muscle, it multiplied more rapidly and to a greater degree in the tissue obtained from female animals. The quantity of virus used to produce infection was an important determinant in demonstration of this phenomenon. The sex differences did not appear to be related to the number of cells present in the muscle culture at time of viral inoculation.
