Abstract
Summary
Determinations of calcium ion activities by potentiometric measurements using permselective sulfonated polystyrenecollodion membranes indicate that calcium is not very strongly bound by Bence-Jones protein. It is concluded that bone destruction frequently associated with plasma cell proliferation in patients who have multiple myeloma cannot be due to a direct chemical interaction of bone calcium with the Bence-Jones proteins.
