Summary
Blood and small intestine of thiamine deficient rats showed reduced levels of 5-HT while 5-HT content of the spleen of both starved and deficient animals was elevated. Mitochondrial monoamine oxidase activity was increased in the brain and small intestine during starvation and B1-deficiency without any detectable change in that of the liver, spleen and kidney.
