Summary
Binding of monomeric, unoxidized (HGA) and polymeric, autoxidized (HGA-OP) homogentisic acid solutions to hide powder collagen preparations has been studied. It has been shown that there is no active binding of HGA to collagen, whereas there is extensive binding of HGA-OP to collagen. Coupled with previously presented observations, it is suggested that HGA-OP can act as a potent tanning agent for collagen.
