Abstract
Summary
Analysis of lipids of the intima and media of aortas with progressive stages of atherosclerosis reveals an increase in sterol and sterol ester fractions and a decrease in phospholipids. It is proposed that these changes reveal a very low rate of lipid turn-over in this tissue. The fatty acid composition of the cholesterol esters did not change with advancing atherosclerosis.
